Origins and Early Success
Founded in 1960, the Houston Oilers joined the American Football League (AFL) as charter members. Backed by oilman Bud Adams, the Oilers quickly established themselves as a formidable force, winning two AFL championships (1960 and 1961).
The Astrodome Era
