Jeremy Corbyn to Stand as Independent Candidate in Next Election
Former Labour Leader Loses Party Support
Jeremy Corbyn, the former leader of the Labour Party, has announced that he will stand as an independent candidate in the next election. The decision comes after the party's governing body voted to block his candidacy as a Labour nominee.
Statement from Corbyn
"I have made this decision because I believe that the Labour Party is no longer a vehicle for change," Mr Corbyn said. "The party has been hijacked by a narrow clique of centrist Blairites and I can no longer in good conscience be a part of it."
