Edmonton Drafts Three Players in Final Rounds
The Edmonton Oilers made three picks in the final rounds of the 2023 NHL Draft, adding depth to their organization. The Oilers selected forward Matthew Semin with the 231st overall pick, defenseman Callum Chisholm with the 262nd overall pick, and defenseman Jack Beck with the 293rd overall pick.
The Oilers also acquired defenseman Mattias Ekholm from the Nashville Predators for Tyson Barrie. Ekholm is a veteran defenseman who has played in 601 NHL games, scoring 53 goals and 172 assists. He is expected to provide the Oilers with a physical presence and leadership on the blue line.
The Oilers' draft picks are all considered to be potential prospects, but it is unclear how quickly they will be able to contribute at the NHL level. Edmonton has a strong core of young players, including Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, so the newly drafted players will have to work hard to earn a spot in the lineup.
